NAPA VALLEY

Napa Valley, about an hour’s drive north of San Francisco, is the epitome of American viticulture. Although Napa is the best known wine region in the US, only about 5% of wine is actually produced in Napa Valley.

The region is home to some of the best Cabernet Sauvignons and Chardonnays in the world and became famous in the 1976 Paris Tasting, when Stag’s Leap’s Cabernet Sauvignon and Chateau Montelena’s Chardonnay (by winemaker Mike Grgich) were voted the best wines in a blind tasting against the top French wine producers.
